Essence Of God

ESSENCE OF GOD

The Bible does not seek to prove the existence of God; it assumes His existence to be true. Comprehension of the doctrine of the “Trinity” and Divine Essence must be Spiritually perceived and believed by Faith.

The following are ten characteristics that make up the Divine Essence of God.

1: Sovereignty: Supreme in power, highest in authority, ultimately in control

2: Eternal life: God has neither beginning nor end. Always has existed and always will exist and is not limited or subject to time.

3: Love: “Agape”, unconditional, impersonal love. God loves us not because of who or what we are but because of who and what he is. Not emotion or feelings.

4: Justice: God is perfectly just and fair.

5: Righteousness: (+R) holy, perfect, good and free from sin or wrong.

6: Immutability: God never changes and can never change. Absolute stability. He will never increase or decrease. His essence will always be the same.

7: Veracity: Absolute truth. God cannot lie; therefore His Word is true so we can depend on it.

8: Omniscience: All knowing. He knows the past, present and future. He knows potentiality and reality.

9: Omnipotence: All-powerful. Limitless in ability. (Can never violate His                      essence.)

10: Omnipresence: Everywhere present simultaneously, therefore He can give us time and attention as if we were the only person on the planet.

The Trinity

To say that God is Three in One is simply to say that God is Three Persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and that these Three Persons have exactly the same characteristics:  S,EL,L,J,+R,O,O,O,I,V.  This is all that God is Three in One means – no more and no less.  Any way this meaning is changed will only confuse the issue.  Whether you say 3 in 1, or 1 in 3, or Triune God, or Trinity, it all comes out the same.  There are Three Persons of the Godhead with exactly the same characteristics:  The Father has the characteristics of sovereignty, eternal life, love, justice, righteousness, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, immutability and veracity.  The Son has the characteristics of sovereignty, eternal life, love, justice, righteousness, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, immutability and veracity.  And the Holy Spirit has the characteristics of Sovereignty, eternal life, love, justice, righteousness, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, immutability and veracity.

Although God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have exactly the same characteristics (S,EL,L,J,+R,O,O,O,I,V), the Three Persons of the Godhead do not have the same function (job description).  In a meeting held in eternity past all three members of the Godhead determined how each of them would function in relation to all of creation.

Acts 2:23

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel [ the predetermined plan, God’s set purpose, His prearranged plan ] and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:  (KJV)

The job descriptions of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in relationship to the PLAN OF GOD for our lives is as follows:

A.  Father: author of the Plan

1 Corinthians 8:6a  yet for us there is {but} one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we {exist} for Him; . . . (NAS)

B.   Son: executor of the Plan.

John 5:30  “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. (NAS)

1 Corinthians 8:6b . . . and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things and we {exist} through Him. (NAS)

C.  Holy Spirit: revealer of the Plan, restorer to the Plan.

John 14:26

26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (NAS)

Titus 3:5

5   He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, (NAS)

Genesis 1:2

2   And the earth was formless and void and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. (NAS)

Most people who say, “God,” do not know of whom they speak, but they are referring either (1) to the entire Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), or they are referring (2) only

0.

to God the Father.  When someone raises a question about the God of Christianity, it is legitimate to ask “God who?” God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, or the entire Godhead?  Just because the job description of God the Son is different from the job descriptions of God the Father and God the Holy Spirit makes Him no less God than the Father or the Holy Spirit.  Job descriptions for the Godhead were determined by one characteristic, Sovereignty, while total essence determines deity.
